Thigh and buttock lift (Thighplasty)

Thigh and buttock lift is useful after significant weight loss, when the thigh and buttock skin is not elastic enough to return to its normal position. This is when we get excess skin that has to be removed surgically. This procedure can be done only after the body weight stabilizes and weight loss process has come to its end. It is very frequent, that the skin cannot move back to its original position, and the excess skin does not look nice.

How is thigh and buttock lift done?

Before the procedure, the surgeon marks the planned incision, while the patient is standing upright. The surgeon is removing the excess skin and fat from the inner part of the thigh i.e. underneath the buttocks. If skin looseness is limited to the upper third, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat from that area, leaving semi-moon-shaped scaring. The scar is leading form the hip joint to the area underneath the buttock. There are no scars in the inner part of the thighs. If the loose skin is stretching across the whole inner thigh down to the knee, we must simultaneously do the procedure of vertical excess skin and fat removal. In that case, the scar is stretching across the hip joint, inner side of the thigh and above the knee. More or less visible scars disappear with time. The surgery is done under general anesthesia and lasts around 3 to 6 hours for both thighs.
