Chin surgery

Forehead, lips and chin should form a vertical line. If this is not the case, face harmony is disturbed. The chin holds a central place of all contours of our face, and if it is too big or too small, it disturbs the harmony, and has negative effects on face profile.

How is chin surgery done?

Surgical intervention is done under the chin or trough oral cavity. Such approach enables easier access to the lower jaw bone. With poorly defined chin, we place an implant of wanted size or we can correct the jaw bone. If bone correction is done, jaw bone has to be divided horizontally, and lower part of the bone must be moved forward and fixed in a new position using metal plates or wire. In case of a too big chin, the surgeon must trim the chin bone or horizontally divide the jawbone and move the lower part backwards. Incisions are sutured with fine sutures, and the wound is closed by a waterproof band. It lasts 6 - 8 weeks for the bone to heal completely.

During your consultation with the surgeon, you will be informed about other possible interventions that can be combined with chin correction. You must not apply any make up on the day of the surgery. You will get information on all necessary examinations before the surgery from your doctor.

What happens after a chin surgery?

After chin correction you must wear protective band for a few days, so that the wound is well protected form external influences and to reduce possibility of implant movement to a minimum. If the incision is inside the oral cavity it is necessary to rinse it with disinfecting liquid or sage tea. You should avoid solid, sour and spicy food, as well as dairy, for a few days. After the surgery there will be bruising, swelling, discomfort in the chin area, but it will all disappear in a few days. You should talk and laugh only when necessary, and after we remove the sutures you must brush your teeth very carefully and gently. The sutures are removed after 1 - 2 weeks.
